Universal Orlando Holidays: A Festive Guide to the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

If you’re dreaming of a holiday season filled with bright lights, thrilling rides, and merry moments you’ll never forget, Universal Orlando Resort is the place to be. From beloved holiday characters to magical parades and seasonal treats, the parks transform into a winter wonderland with a uniquely Universal twist!
Whether you’re visiting with little ones, teens, or just adults looking for holiday fun, Universal’s festive lineup offers something for every type of traveler. I had the opportunity to visit during this event last December and it slowly topped my list as one of my favorite things I have experienced at Universal Orlando Resort! Here are some of my must do’s to get yourself and your family in the holiday spirit:
Universal’s Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s
One of the biggest highlights for me was the Universal’s Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s! Picture giant balloons, floats, and dancers bringing the magic of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade right to the streets of Universal Studios Florida.
Here you can expect Minions, DreamWorks favorites such as Shrek and Madagascar characters, and Santa himself closing out the celebration. It’s whimsical, bright, and impossible not to smile through! Pro Tip: Make sure to get there early to secure your parade spot! I highly recommend standing to the right of Revenge of the Mummy on the sidewalk in front of the Christmas Tree. This is the perfect spot to capture Santa lighting the tree at the end of the parade!
Grinchmas at Universal’s Islands of Adventure
An absolute must-do is Grinchmas, a park-wide celebration inspired by How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
You can:
- Watch the heartwarming Grinchmas Who-liday Spectacular, a live retelling of the classic story.
- Meet the mischievous Grinch for unforgettable (and often hilarious!) photo ops.
- Explore a decked-out Seuss Landing, transformed into a whimsical, colorful holiday wonderland.
This part of the holiday celebration is perfect for families—and anyone who loves the Grinch’s snarky charm. Meeting the Grinch and Max was the highlight of my trip!
The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle
In The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the holidays feel absolutely enchanting. Both Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley are decorated with garlands, lights, and magical touches unique to each shop.
Make sure to:
- Watch The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle, a stunning nighttime projection show.
- Enjoy seasonal Wizarding World treats, like hot Butterbeer.
- Listen to celestina Warbeck and the Banshees perform festive songs in Diagon Alley.
This was absolutely magical! I loved walking through Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade decorated for the holiday season! It brought tears to my eyes and I felt even more ready for Christmas!
Holiday Tribute Store
Each holiday season, Universal opens a themed Holiday Tribute Store, offering exclusive merchandise, photo ops, and seasonal snacks. It’s the perfect place to pick up unique souvenirs or gifts for the Universal fans on your list. Last year, the tribute store was themed around the story of Earl the Squirrel. After visiting this event, Earl the Squirrel quickly became a fan favorite of mine! You can even meet him in the parks for a themed photo op!
Holiday Festivities at Universal’s Hotels
Don’t miss the resort-wide celebrations at Universal’s on-site hotels, including:
- Christmas tree and menorah lightings
- Holiday carolers
- Festive dining experiences
- Visits from Santa
- Beautiful lobby decorations perfect for photos
Staying on-site during the holidays adds a relaxing and magical layer to your vacation. I stayed at Lowes Sapphire Falls Resort and it was decorated with Christmas trees and other festive decorations. They were also building a Gingerbread town in the lobby!
Seasonal Treats & Exclusive Merchandise
Throughout the resort, you’ll find limited-time food offerings, from Grinch-inspired snacks to festive cocktails. Exclusive ornaments, holiday apparel, and themed souvenirs also make great gifts or keepsakes. I of course had to sample some holiday treats but I went home with an array of Earl the Squirrel themed merchandise!
