Exploring Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea: The Trip of a Lifetime!

Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea have been on my bucket list for years. My friends and I had scheduled an epic trip in June of 2020 but unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic had us postponing our plans. So let’s just say my recent trip was years in the making. We decided to go all-in and we booked a Tokyo Disney Resort Vacation Package, choosing to immerse ourselves fully by staying at the breathtaking Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta®. Let me tell you, it was an experience unlike any other, and even with four full days, it just wasn’t enough!
Choosing the Vacation Package was, without a doubt, one of the best decisions we made. It truly elevated our entire trip. For those unfamiliar, the Tokyo Disney Resort Vacation Packages are these incredible bundles that offer so much more than just park tickets and a hotel room. We opted for one that included:
- Hotel Stay: The package included a stay at one of the select Tokyo Disney Resort hotels. Participating hotels include:
- Tokyo Disneyland Hotel
- Disney Ambassador Hotel
- Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta
- Tokyo Disney Resort Toy Story Hotel
- Park Hopper Tickets: This was essential, allowing us to seamlessly move between Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea each day. Trust me, you’ll want to experience both parks fully!
- Guaranteed Entry to Select Attractions This was an absolute lifesaver! The package came with a certain number of “Attraction Tickets” which allowed us to choose specific attractions and enter through a much shorter line at a designated time. Given the legendary wait times in Tokyo, these were pure gold.
- Beverage Tickets: This allowed us to enjoy an “unlimited” number of soft drinks (including hot, cold, and specialty drinks) at participating locations within both parks.
- Breakfast at Our Hotel: Starting each day with a delicious and convenient buffet breakfast at the Hotel MiraCosta® was such a treat. It saved us valuable park time and fueled us up for a day of adventure.
- Fantasy Springs Access: Fantasy Springs Magic Pass for unlimited access to attractions within the area.
- Exclusive Merchandise: The package also included some unique merchandise that you can’t get anywhere else, which was a lovely souvenir of our special trip.
- The Sheer Convenience: Beyond the tangible inclusions, the biggest benefit was the sheer convenience of having everything bundled together. It streamlined the planning process and made our time in the parks so much smoother.
Staying at the Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta® was an experience in itself. The hotel is integrated into Tokyo DisneySea, where our room literally overlooks the park! Waking up to the sounds of the park and having immediate access was just magical. Our room was beautifully themed, and the hotel’s restaurants and amenities were top-notch. Being able to pop back to the room for a quick rest or to drop off souvenirs was invaluable, especially with the intense park days.
Now, let’s talk about the parks themselves. Tokyo Disneyland felt familiar in a comforting way, with classic attractions like Haunted Mansion (which had their Haunted Mansion Holiday Nightmare overlay while we were there) and Big Thunder Mountain, but with a distinctly Japanese flair and incredible attention to detail. They also had amazing signature rides you can’t find anywhere else like The Happy Ride with Baymax, where we had to learn all the fun dances, and Enchanted Tales of Beauty and the Beast, which was the main reason we actually flew all the way to Japan to visit this park! Here, riders board magical teacups that dance and glide through memorable scenes and musical numbers from the beloved animated film, brought to life with stunning animatronics and immersive environments. The surrounding village area also features Maurice’s Cottage, Gaston’s Tavern, and other themed shops and dining locations, fully immersing visitors in the fairytale.
That being said, Tokyo DisneySea… wow. This park is truly in a league of its own. The theming of the different “ports of call” is absolutely breathtaking, from the romantic Italian waterways of Mediterranean Harbor to the mysterious depths of Mysterious Island and the exotic Arabian Coast. The attractions are innovative and immersive, many of which you won’t find anywhere else in the world. We were constantly saying, “Wow, look at this!” around every corner. We rode Journey to the Center of the Earth (an absolute must-do!), Soaring: Fantastic Flight (a unique and stunning take on the Soarin’ concept), and the Tower of Terror, just to name a few. There was always something new and exciting to discover. Honestly, four full days felt like a whirlwind, and we barely scratched the surface of everything there was to see and do. We definitely need a return trip!
Adding to the magic of our vacation package, we were also thrilled to learn that our visit coincided with the new Fantasy Springs at Tokyo DisneySea. This highly anticipated expansion, featuring immersive lands themed to “Frozen,” “Tangled,” and “Peter Pan,” was seamlessly integrated into the park experience for Vacation Package holders. We were able to wander through the breathtaking landscapes of Arendelle, Rapunzel’s Forest, and Never Land, marveling at the intricate details and soaking in the atmosphere of these beloved stories come to life. We had the “1-Day Passport: Fantasy Springs Magic” ticket included in our vacation package that granted us unlimited access to all attractions in Fantasy Springs.
However, there was one aspect of the Tokyo Disney experience that truly surprised me: the lines. I thought wait times in the US parks could be long, but Tokyo takes it to a whole new level. The dedication of the Japanese guests to experiencing every single aspect of the parks is astounding. What truly blew my mind was the length of the lines for… popcorn. Yes, you read that right. People would queue for what seemed like an eternity just to get their hands on a specific flavor of popcorn from one of the many uniquely themed popcorn carts. We saw lines stretching incredibly long for things like soy sauce and butter flavored popcorn! Similarly, lines for certain snacks were unbelievably long. It was a testament to the popularity and the unique offerings within the parks, but it definitely required a level of patience I wasn’t entirely prepared for.
Despite the long queues (which the Priority Seating Passes definitely helped mitigate for the major attractions), the overall experience at Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea was absolutely incredible. The level of detail, the unique attractions, the exceptional service, and the sheer immersion into the Disney magic were unlike anything I’ve experienced before. Staying at the Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta® through the Vacation Package was the perfect way to fully embrace the experience and make the most of our time. If you’re a Disney fan looking for a truly unforgettable adventure, a trip to Tokyo Disney Resort should absolutely be on your list. Just be prepared for those legendary lines – and maybe try some of that unique popcorn for yourself! The hardest part of the whole trip was saying goodbye.
