Inside the Hyatt Inclusive Collection: Choosing The Resort That’s Right For You

With so many all-inclusive resorts to choose from, finding the right one can feel overwhelming. While they may offer similar amenities on paper, the atmosphere, experience, and type of traveler each resort is best suited for can be completely different.

Earlier this year, I traveled to Cancun for the Hyatt Inclusive Collection Advisor Educational Program (AEP), where I had the opportunity to stay at Secrets The Vine Cancun and tour several other Hyatt Inclusive Collection resorts throughout Cancun and Playa Mujeres. Experiencing these properties firsthand gave me a much better feel for the things you can’t always see online — from the pools and beaches to dining, activities, room options, and the overall atmosphere of each resort.

The biggest takeaway? There isn’t one “best” all-inclusive resort — there’s a resort that’s best for your vacation. So, I’m breaking down the properties I experienced, what stood out to me, and who I think each one is best suited for.

What Does “All-Inclusive” Really Mean?

If you’ve never stayed at an all-inclusive resort before, it can be hard to know exactly what “all-inclusive” actually means — and honestly, it’s one of my favorite ways to vacation when the goal is to truly relax.

Imagine arriving at your resort, getting settled into your room, and knowing that for the next several days, most of your vacation is already taken care of. You can grab coffee in the morning, order breakfast, spend the afternoon by the pool with a drink in hand, stop for a snack whenever you want, and head to dinner that evening without pulling out your wallet every time.

That’s really the beauty of an all-inclusive vacation. Instead of constantly thinking about where you’re going to eat, how much dinner is going to cost, or whether you should order another drink by the pool, you get to settle in and enjoy the resort.

And “all-inclusive” definitely doesn’t mean you’re eating at the same buffet every day! One of the things I love about the Hyatt Inclusive Collection is the variety. Depending on the resort, you may have several restaurants, coffee shops, poolside dining, bars and lounges, room service, entertainment, activities, and beautiful pools and beaches to enjoy — all right at your resort.

So, what’s typically included?

At most Hyatt Inclusive Collection resorts, your stay includes:

Unlimited dining
Unlimited alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks
Coffee shops and snacks
Pools and beach access
Daily and nightly entertainment
Fitness center access
Concierge service
Most gratuities

What might cost extra?

There are still a few experiences you may want to budget for separately, depending on the resort:

Spa treatments
Golf
Excursions
Motorized water sports
Dolphin encounters
Private cabanas
Premium room or club-level upgrades
Some airport transportation

For me, one of the biggest benefits of staying at an all-inclusive is how easy the vacation feels. You can absolutely fill your days with activities, excursions, spa treatments, and experiences — or you can do absolutely nothing beyond deciding which pool you want to sit by and where you want to eat dinner.

And that’s where choosing the right all-inclusive becomes so important. While many of these resorts include similar things, the actual experience can be completely different from one property to the next. A resort that’s perfect for a honeymoon may not be the one I’d choose for a family with young kids, and the resort I’d recommend for a girls’ trip might be completely different from the one I’d choose for a quiet anniversary getaway.

That’s exactly why I wanted to experience these properties firsthand — and why I’m breaking down some of the Hyatt Inclusive Collection resorts I toured in Cancun to help you find the one that fits your vacation.

Here Are The Hotels I Had the Chance to Experience:

Secrets The Vine Cancun

Secrets The Vine was our home base for the trip, so this was the resort I had the opportunity to experience the most. It’s a smaller, adults-only property with a more intimate, upscale feel — but you’re still right in the heart of Cancun’s Hotel Zone. Between the beachfront location, great food and service, and one of my favorite spa experiences of the trip, this is a resort I would especially recommend for couples looking for an easy, relaxing getaway.

Book this if: You’re planning a honeymoon, anniversary, couples’ getaway, or your first all-inclusive vacation.

Highlights: Beautiful beachfront location, intimate atmosphere, excellent food and service, multiple pools, and an incredible spa.

Good to Know: This isn’t the resort I’d choose if nightlife and a big party atmosphere are your top priorities. Evenings felt more relaxed, making it a better fit for travelers who want to unwind.

Worth the Splurge: The spa! We did the 50-minute Relaxing Couples Massage and spent time in the hydrotherapy circuit, which included the steam room, sauna, cold plunge, hot tub, and relaxation areas. After several days in the Cancun sun, I also added the 25-minute Express Facial — and would absolutely do it again.

Travel Tip: Arrive early for your spa appointment so you have plenty of time to enjoy the hydrotherapy circuit before your treatment.

Hyatt Ziva Cancun

Hyatt Ziva Cancun is another standout option for families, with a beautiful beachfront location and plenty for both kids and adults to enjoy. One of its most unique features is the on-site dolphin habitat — and some of the rooms are even positioned along the habitat, giving guests the possibility of seeing the dolphins right from their balcony.

Book this if: You’re planning a family vacation or multigenerational getaway, especially if a dolphin experience is high on your vacation wish list.

Highlights: Beautiful beachfront location, multiple pools, plenty of dining and activities, and an on-site dolphin habitat where guests can book interactive encounters.

Good to Know: While Hyatt does not list a separate “Dolphin View” room category, there are Resort View rooms located along the dolphin habitat. These rooms can be requested based on availability — and this is a great example of where working with a travel advisor can come in handy!

Travel Tip: If having a view of the dolphins is important to you, let your travel advisor know when booking so they can help request a room in the best location.

Hyatt Vivid Grand Island

Hyatt Vivid Grand Island had a completely different energy. It’s modern, adults-only, and much more social — the kind of resort I could immediately picture for a girls’ trip, birthday celebration, or group getaway. While the resort itself isn’t directly on the beach, guests have access to a private beach club, giving you a little bit of both experiences.

Book this if: You’re planning a girls’ trip, birthday, bachelor/bachelorette trip, golf getaway, or social adults-only vacation.

Highlights: Modern design, lively atmosphere, private beach club, multiple pools and social spaces, plus nearby golf with special rates for resort guests.

Good to Know: The resort is not beachfront. A complimentary shuttle takes guests to the private beach club, so if walking directly from your room to the sand is important to you, I’d consider one of the other properties.

Worth the Upgrade: The Vantage Club adds some of my favorite spaces at this resort, including access to the rooftop pool and Cobalt Bar, along with a private lounge, breakfast options, concierge service, and additional upgraded amenities.

Dreams Playa Mujeres

If I were planning a family or multigenerational all-inclusive trip, Dreams Playa Mujeres would be high on my list. There’s a lot happening here, which makes it especially appealing when you’re traveling with different ages and everyone wants something a little different from the vacation.

Book this if: You’re planning a family vacation, multigenerational trip, or want plenty of activities without constantly leaving the resort.

Highlights: An on-site water park, multiple pools, a beautiful white-sand beach, kids and teen clubs, daily activities, live entertainment, and access to nearby golf. Adults also have access to the restaurants, bars, and facilities at neighboring Secrets Playa Mujeres.

Good to Know: This is definitely a family-focused resort with plenty to keep both kids and adults entertained. If you’re traveling without children and want a quieter adults-only atmosphere, one of the Secrets properties may be a better fit.

Travel Tip: This is a great resort to consider for multigenerational groups because there are activities and spaces designed for several different age groups.

Secrets Playa Mujeres

Secrets Playa Mujeres felt much more peaceful and romantic, making it an easy property to picture for a honeymoon, anniversary, or couples’ getaway. It’s adults-only with a beautiful beach and a quieter atmosphere that feels designed for slowing down and enjoying where you are.

Book this if: You’re looking for romance, relaxation, a honeymoon or anniversary destination, or a peaceful adults-only beach vacation.

Highlights: Adults-only atmosphere, beautiful beach, relaxing setting, and options for destination weddings and romantic celebrations.

Good to Know: If you’re looking for a lively, highly social atmosphere, I’d lean toward Hyatt Vivid instead. This property is better suited for travelers who want their vacation to feel slower and more relaxing.

Secrets Mirabel Cancun

Secrets Mirabel was especially exciting to tour because it was brand-new during our visit. The property has a fresh, contemporary feel and immediately stood out as an option for travelers who want that newer, modern luxury experience.

Book this if: You love brand-new resorts, contemporary design, adults-only luxury, or you’re considering a destination wedding.

Highlights: New accommodations, modern design, upscale adults-only atmosphere, and beautiful options for weddings and celebrations.

Good to Know: Because this was such a new property when we toured it, it didn’t have the same established feel as some of the other resorts yet. For some travelers, being among the first to experience a new resort is part of the fun!

Final Thoughts

Experiencing the Hyatt Inclusive Collection firsthand gave me a much better appreciation for just how different an all-inclusive vacation can look from one resort to the next. From relaxing spa days and quiet beachfront mornings to water parks, rooftop pools, and lively group getaways, there really is something for every type of traveler.

I came home from Cancun with plenty of new favorites, a much longer travel wish list, and a lot more insight into what makes each of these properties special.

Trips like this are one of my favorite parts of being a travel advisor because they give me the opportunity to experience destinations beyond what you can see in photos or read online. There’s nothing quite like walking through a resort, seeing the rooms, experiencing the atmosphere, and getting a feel for who would truly love staying there.
